What kind of Thursday?

It’s a kind of weird name. Okay. It’s a really weird name.

But it has a really cool origin. It comes from the Latin novum mandatum meaning “New Command”. And what is Jesus’s “new Command”? Love One Another.

Don’t believe me? Check it out: John 13:34 – “A new command I give you: Love one another.”

Really? That’s Jesus’ command? Yes. It’s a command and a promise. A promise of what kind of group his followers could be today if they took the command to Love One Another to heart. It’s wrapped up in the last evening of his life before his suffering and death. Wrapped up in him washing their feet (something that was even more gross back then than it is today). Wrapped up in him letting his body be broken to give all of his followers (including us today) a new chance at life.

Do you want to be a part of a community that loves one another? Not just “I guess you don’t annoy me too much” but honestly, deeply cares for one another? Sacrifices for one another?

It hasn’t always been what Church is. But maybe we can strive to be that for one another, with one another. Maybe Jesus is the beginning and the end of how we figure out how to do that. And maybe that’s what we can be here in Westboro, Ohio.

Come join us. Let’s dream about it. Let’s talk about how Jesus set that example for us, and made a way for us to be that for one another.
